A semester told through colors, shapes, textures, and very personal perspectives.
Recently, the Faculty of Visual Arts – Soul Institute of Arts (SIA) hosted the “WE ARE SIA VISUAL ARTS” exhibition, marking the conclusion of Semester I.2026 for the Visual Arts students.
Far more than just an occasion to showcase completed works from throughout the semester, the exhibition provided a space for viewers to witness the learning process, exploration, and growth in the students’ artistic thinking across every level.
Each Artwork is a Milestone on the Creative Journey
From the earliest works of the Explorer students—where imagination is sparked through colors, shapes, senses, and spatial experiences—to the projects in the Foundation level, where art begins to connect with daily life, materials, and design thinking, every piece reflects a new step forward in the creative journey.
At the Advanced level, students continue to delve deeper into composition, expression, meaning, and form, while experimenting with a diverse range of media and materials such as painting, photography, printmaking, collage, sculpture, and body design.
In particular, within the Career Pathways space, artistic experiments bearing a distinct personal mark become even more prominent. Students are free to explore various modes of expression—from painting, photography, and cyanotype to fashion and textile design—thereby gradually discovering their own unique artistic voice and identity.
From the Classroom to the Exhibition Space
The special feature of “WE ARE SIA VISUAL ARTS” lies in the fact that viewers not only get to see the final products, but also have the opportunity to visualize the process behind each artwork.
Sketches, material tests, models, visual research, and finished products are displayed side by side, creating a visual journey of how an idea is formed, developed, and transformed into a work of art.
Through this, the exhibition becomes an “open diary” recording the questions, experiments, explorations, and progress of the students throughout Semester I.2026.
When Art Becomes a Way to Tell One’s Own Story
Every student comes to art with a different starting point. Some begin with curiosity about the world around them, others find inspiration in familiar materials, while some start asking questions about themselves, their community, and the future.
Yet through the exhibition, these diverse journeys meet at a single point: the ability to observe, think, and express through a unique artistic language.
Therefore, “WE ARE SIA VISUAL ARTS” is not merely a semester-end exhibition, but also an occasion for students to look back at the journey they have traveled, for parents to witness their children’s growth, and for the SIA community to observe the creative strides of a young generation of artists.
